Lauren Brio is a French sculptor, born in 1963. She started working with clay when she was 22 years old in Paris, and since moving to London 30 years ago, her bronze, resin bronze and glass sculptures have been shown in several exhibitions and commissioned by various collectors. Her trademark curved lines and shapes can be seen across her three major themes that are Femininity & Maternity, Music and Japan.

Lauren also enjoys etching, which she started practicing with Lélia Pissarro in her studio where they bought their first press together. Lauren draws then engraves metal or carves lino plates. Her 2-dimensional craft reflects her 3D expression – the use of connected and curved lines are truly at the forefront of her etching work.
Together, Lauren and Lélia have experimented with many different techniques, including drypoint, aquatint, the use of various shades of ink and watercolouring acid etchings, all of which are on a wide range of different papers.
Subsequently, along with Hugues-Claude Pissarro, they founded The Sorteval Press and collectively exhibited at Mall Galleries in London in December 1999. Here, Lauren displayed the collection of her sculptures, etchings, and other works on paper.

Additionally, Lauren also learnt to paint with Polish painter Ewa Gargulinska at the latter’s studio in Richmond. Again, Lauren’s themes and style can be recognised in her paintings and are reinforced by the use of vivid colours.

During all these years, Lauren relied on her artistic practice to resource herself alongside her busy Strategy responsibilities in the Corporate world. She took a sabbatical year to join a course for sculpture and video at Chelsea College of Art and Design, and then became an Executive Coach where she embodies and embeds her creative side to the service of leaders. It is in the balancing and navigating of her different dimensions and interests that Lauren experiences the re-energising benefits of being “In The Flow”, also the title of the short film from Counter House Productions that gives an insight into her artistic inspirations and aspirations.
